Question

I have had two children over the last two years both of which were big babies 9lb+.

I am also overweight and all of this combined has left me with an excess of skin which hangs over.

How much would it cost to get this removed, would I need to loose weight before having it done and what is the difference between abdominoplasty and mini abdominoplasty?

Answer

In general terms, the closer you are to the ideal weight, the better, as long as you feel confident that you will stay more or less around that weight.

With regards to the risks, it does depend on how significant the weight excess is, and this can be evaluated more accurately at the time of a consultation.

Abdominoplasty surgery involves removing an ellipse of skin and fatty tissue between the umbilicus and pubis, and the skin and fatty tissue from above the umbilicus stretches down to cover the abdomen creating a flatter contour.

The mini abdominoplasty typically deals just with the lower abdominal apron and has little impact on the upper part of the tummy, but can be combined with liposuction for an enhanced contouring effect. It is more suitable for more elastic skin.
