Question

In which surgeries do you take anti embolic preventive measures: abdominoplasty, liposuction, facelift?

Thank you so much and I will appreciate if you can be specific on your measures, like chemoprophylaxis, stockings etc, pre, during and post.

Answer

My approach is to apply as accurately as I can the guidelines provided by the NICE on DVT prophylaxis. The main area of conflict is in blepharoplasty surgical interventions, where anti coagulation could have devastating consequences, and therefore most of the time now I try to separate blepharoplasties from other facial surgical interventions so they can be carried out under local anaesthetic with or without intravenous sedation.
