I am considering getting cheek implants.
I have been to a jaw surgeon and they recognised that would help my sunken cheek bones, mid face due to loss of upper teeth in my early twenties. They said jaw surgery would help but I would not like to go this route.
I have a few questions I would like to ask you:
With regards to jaw advancement surgery I doubt that it would be of help in your situation unless it involves also advancement of the mid face, which is more involved than the common upper jaw advancement.
With regards to the planning for the surgery, my approach is to evaluate in consultation with the patients, using 3-D imaging and simulations, what are the types of changes that they seek. Based on the changes targeted, it is possible to develop a treatment plan that will be able to achieve reasonably similar, although not identical, surgical corrections.
As a matter of principle, I would not commit to a type of intervention on the basis of descriptions of the problem and desired changes, primarily because experience has shown that in the interactive process of the consultation, patients have a progressive appreciation of both the characteristics of the problem and desired result.
